Celebrate the Ascension Anniversary of Mother Goddess Liễu Hạnh

Today marks the 448th Ascension Anniversary of Mother Goddess Liễu Hạnh, who, following the command of the Jade Emperor, ascended to the heavenly palace. Revered as the primary mother goddess in the Vietnamese Mother Goddess religion, She holds the title of the Second Mother Goddess of Earth, overseeing the Earth Palace and serving as the mortal realm’s representation of the Heaven Palace.

We are pleased to present a couplet penned by scholar Phạm Đình Hổ, extolling the virtues of the Mother Goddess. Crafted during the reign of Minh Mạng, these verses were inscribed onto a pair of wooden boards and graciously gifted to Her shrine near Hoàn Kiếm Lake.

Creating beings like the earth, giving birth to life like the heavens,
Molding entities akin to the grand craftsmanship’s rare fame.
Through the ages, illustrious virtues shine brilliantly.

Ascending as an immortal, descending a Buddha,
Universal salvation for humanity, with maternal compassion selling salvation.
In every direction, joy in venerating the beloved mother.”

成物如地，生物如天，陶鎔物類如大造之難得名，言歷代袞華昭懿鑠。
